GenCon Feedback

At GenCon we ran a handful of tables of the new Ghost in the Shell Roleplaying game. Within the first 15 minutes the players locked in and quickly picked up the rules. Below are their Remarks and Testimonials at the halfway ‘commercial’ break, and after the ‘end credits’. Huge thanks to Michael Frusti for running the game:

"The way the game felt like watching an anime with its edits. Cutting away to different areas of the building to cut to different parts of the action. Running the game with an opening teaser scene and ending with a 'post-credits scene' teasing the next episode. Cutting ahead and letting players split up for an investigation. Yeah, this was an episode of an anime we just played. And I loved it."

"The way we felt like a real team. Not just a group of people doing our own things. Our skill specializations and equipment we took really synergized off of each other. We were able to play off one another and cover for each other. Like a proper team!"

"The Aspects of our character from our Synthesis Conflict the Setbacks are really fun and an interesting way to help define who our character is and gave me a lot to roleplay with. I was not just a lady with a sniper rifle. I felt like a real person with their own struggles and life outside of the mission. And It was really cool having that baked into the game system with rules to use them in the game and reward using them. It felt important, and not like some afterthought."

"It feels like all these rules in this game all work together to help drive a narratively focused game that we have control over and can drive the narrative and investigation in our own direction. It feels like a game where our choices matter, and we have the tools to impact and shape the narrative as players. Especially with those Ghost Whispers!"

"It was really cool how quickly we were able to resolve that action scene. It made us feel like professional operatives, and rewarded us for our careful planning and setup during our investigation. I felt like a character in a movie or anime"

"In most games you start as a total nobody, barely able to fight off a few wolves. I was not expecting to see how capable our starting character felt right from the start of the game. It really made me feel like we were members of an elite team."

"I really like how quick and lethal the game feels! People did not feel like bullet sponges that we had to spend several turns shooting. When I finally got a chance and took a shot at [Redacted Spoiler] I loved that he just died right there before he could escape."

"On one hand, I was really worried about losing my arm (pun intended). But on the other hand, I really loved getting to replace it with a new armored cyber arm. It helped to tell a story about how I got my character's first cyberware. In a full campaign I could see changing my Synthesis conflict around the need to upgrade myself for my mission, and needing to try to hold onto the past and what really makes me human."

"I liked having the hit points tied into the hit location chart. It made hitting my target feel impactful knowing that he couldn't fire his 2 handed gun anymore. I liked getting to roleplay having a broken leg during that gunfight. It was just awesome and I wish other RPGs did this!"

"I love how this game encourages us to split the party. In a lot of games the players are expected to march in formation and go everywhere together. But during the opening scene we all were able to describe our position and how we wanted to enter the hostage situation. We had the sniper across the street. A pair that came down from the roof on the stairs. The fake negotiator taking care of the main lobby, and me repelling down into the window after the distraction in the main hallway. It made us all feed very capable on our own. And It was really cool having those downtime and investigation scenes where we all got to go off and do our own things. Cutting away to each agent leading their own piece of the investigation before regrouping for the next mission we have prepared for. It felt like watching a movie!"

"I liked body damage locations, and how everyone has low hp. It makes combat and injury very impactful, and it keeps combat scenes fast and furious."

"The exploding dice was easily my favorite part of the game! When it clicked that EVERY dice exploded, wow. Attack rolls, damage rolls. That moment when I managed to explode my D6 from my pistol to a D8 to a D10 to a D12, then ended up with a 18 on a D20 and absolutely destroyed that guy. It all started to make sense. It made every roll exciting!"

Three Bonus Missions + Collector's Edition Expanded! | The Ghost in the Shell Tabletop RPG
25 days ago – Tue, Aug 04, 2026 at 08:16:48 AM

Welcome back, Agents!

We hope you had a fantastic weekend. Since our last update, over 400 new agents have joined. Welcome all to the start of your journey as a fully trained recruit at Section 9.

While we're not doing stretch goals, we have already planned three daily reveals. On day four, we shared that all backers will receive "Puppets on a Wire", a new bonus mission, as a free digital PDF. Today, we're excited to reveal this was just the beginning.

ALL BACKERS GET THREE BONUS MISSIONS

We're incredibly grateful for your support bringing this project to life. To thank you, we're increasing the number of missions included in every pledge from ONE MISSION to FOUR MISSIONS!

  1. Rulebook Mission: Lost Patriot
  2. Bonus Mission PDF: Puppets on a Wire
  3. Bonus Mission PDF: The Cruise
  4. Bonus Mission PDF: Revealed on Day 14.

All backers, from the PDF tier to the Collector's Bundle, will now be sent THREE BONUS MISSIONS as digital PDFs once they are finished and approved by Kodansha.

Sessions in The Ghost in the Shell Tabletop RPG are built around missions undertaken by Section 9 agents. These operations may last one long session or several. Player characters can continue their stories through multiple missions to create an ongoing campaign.

FREE BONUS MISSION: The Cruise

The Cruise is intended for a group of player characters who have played at least one other mission and can follow on directly from the rulebook mission Lost Patriot.

Mission Brief: At the grand opening of a luxury high-rise hotel designed as an immersive “cruise,” Section 9 goes undercover to monitor suspicious activity.  When a sudden crisis locks the building down, Section 9 is cut off from support and must adapt to a rapidly escalating situation.

Backers will receive 'The Cruise' mission as a separate digital PDF as soon as it's ready.

THE COLLECTOR'S EDITION IS EXPANDING

Crafted for fans and collectors, this premium edition hardback comes complete with stunning full-height cover art, silver page edging and an integrated ribbon bookmark. The page count between the standard retail hardback and the Collector's Edition was the same, until now...

The Collector's Edition has now been expanded to include all three bonus missions, printed and bound within the book, available together in a single definitive edition. All rewards that include the Collector's Edition will now feature all three bonus missions, pending approval from Kodansha*.

A note on approvals: All bonus mission briefs are already approved by Kodansha, but the full missions are still being written. Although we have every confidence in the missions and expanded Collector's Edition being approved, Kodansha can only officially approve them once these missions are completed and submitted in full.

CREATE YOUR OWN AGENT

Thanks to the folks at UniNerd, the free Character Sheet is now updated with editable text fields, allowing you to digitally create your characters without needing to print the file.

Thanks for all your Support

Once again, thanks for all the positivity and support since launch. The team really appreciates it. Until next time, thank you for joining us on this great adventure.

FREE BONUS MISSION | The Ghost in the Shell Tabletop RPG
29 days ago – Fri, Jul 31, 2026 at 07:02:32 AM

Welcome back, Agents!

Thanks to all of you for joining us on this adventure into the world of Section 9!

For the past three years, we've poured our time, experience, and passion into creating a game we truly believe in. While this campaign has no stretch goals, we are already busy creating additional content. We will be revealing the details on Day 4, Day 8 and Day 14 of the campaign.

Day Four Reveal

All Backers Get a Free Bonus Mission! (Digital PDF)
All backers of this campaign will receive a free bonus mission! This 8-part mission, Puppets on a Wire, is intended for a group of player characters who have played at least one other mission and can follow on directly from the rulebook mission Lost Patriot.

The Brief: Tasked with investigating a series of uncharacteristic and politically charged behaviour among ordinary citizens, they will soon discover that the greatest threat to a person's freedom is not always one they can see coming… or resist. Section 9 must stop a growing wave of forced political coercion, cyber-attacks, and escalating violence before the conspirators can unleash their ultimate plan.

Backers will receive the 'Puppets on a Wire' mission as a separate digital PDF as soon as it's ready and approved by Kodansha!

Rulebook Mission: Lost Patriot

All copies of The Ghost in the Shell TTRPG contain the first mission, Lost Patriot, an 8-part adventure which is intended for a group of newly created PCs.

The Brief: A charismatic political fixer navigates high-stakes negotiations as powerful factions prepare for an uncertain future. Set against a backdrop of political tension, competing interests blur the line between maintaining order and profiting from conflict. The story combines intrigue, deception, and power plays in a world where perception can be as important as military force.

Missions in The Ghost in the Shell TTRPG

Sessions in The Ghost in the Shell Tabletop RPG are built around missions undertaken by Section 9 agents. These operations may last one session or several. Player characters can continue their stories through multiple missions to create an ongoing campaign.

GMs can either create their own missions, run published adventures or make their own adjustments as they see fit. The structure below provides a framework for running both custom and pre-written scenarios.

Missions are organised into five phases that guide the flow of gameplay from briefing to conclusion.

  • Instigation - The mission begins with a hook, usually a Section 9 briefing, introducing the objective and initial information.
  • Investigation - Player Characters gather intelligence, follow leads, question suspects, and uncover clues that move the mission forward.
  • Action - Infiltrations, chases, stealth operations, and combat encounters take place as the Player Characters confront obstacles directly.
  • Downtime - Characters rest, recover injuries, reflect on their experiences, and potentially adjust their Synthesis Gauge or gain GW points.
  • Denouement - The mission concludes with consequences, unresolved threads, rewards, and opportunities to set up future stories.

Thanks for all your Support

Once again, thanks for all the positivity and support since launch. The team really appreciates it. While we won't be posting any updates over the weekend, we will be checking comments and replying where needed. Until next week, thank you for joining us on this great adventure.

Actual Play Episode 2 is Live | The Ghost in the Shell Tabletop RPG
30 days ago – Thu, Jul 30, 2026 at 01:34:25 PM

Welcome back, Agents!

Recently, game designer Alessio and friends gathered to record their exploration into the world of The Ghost in the Shell Tabletop RPG!

During this campaign, we'll be sharing their successes, mishaps and adventures in an Actual Play series! Apologies episode two arrives a little late in day, it took over 5 hours for my small laptop to process!

Episode 1 - Meet the Characters

In Episode 1, the group are creating their characters, gearing up and taking the first steps into the 8-part story arc of The Lost Patriot, the mission included with all copies of The Ghost in the Shell TTRPG. For those of you looking to avoid any spoilers, be sure to stop watching at around 49 minutes, when the mission truly begins.

Episode 2 - Hostage Rescue

In episode 2, the group jump head first into the mission contained in all rulebooks, "The Lost Patriot". If you want to avoid all spoilers, then consider skipping this video. If you want to laugh, shout, and question the actions of this team of new recruits, the below video is well worth watching.

To find out more about character creation and game mechanics before watching this video, be sure to check out our designer diary series with Alessio.

What kind of agent will you be?

Try to keep the comments spoiler free, but on a scale of 1-10, how do you think the team did? Whose tactics had you cheering and whose had your face in your hands?

Tomorrow I'll be revealing something new, but my lips are sealed for now. Until then, thank you for joining us on this great adventure.
